Dental Implants

Implant

If you're missing one or more teeth, you've probably noticed that there are a few things you're missing , like the ability to chew and eat foods you desire and the ability to smile. Worse yet, you may be living with chronically sore and infected teeth that should be removed. Fortunately, today, you have the option of placing dental implants, an advanced technology that is a permanent solution to replace one or more missing teeth that will help you  regain your ability to chew naturally, with confidence, as well as and restoring your smile.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that replaces the root portion of a missing natural tooth. The implant is placed in the jawbone, allowed to integrate (bond) with the bone, and serves as an anchor for a permanent natural-looking ceramic crown (cap.).  Dental implants are considered the best alternative for replacing missing teeth for two reasons.

The first of these is the preservation of bone levels in your jaw. When a tooth is lost, your bone deteriorates over a very short period of time from a lack of bone stimulation. You can lose 60% of the your jaw bone. Dental implants help preserve the bone structure and levels in your jaw, as well as help maintain the integrity of your facial structure.

Secondly, a dental implant is an independent tooth replacement device. You do not have to compromise or drill on other teeth to hold in a bridge or partial denture. And since implants are anchored securely in your jaw, the permanent crown placed on the implant functions far better than a traditional bridge, partial or denture. Dental implants are the closest possible replacement to your natural teeth, they will look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth did, or even better!

How is an implant done?

The first step is a comprehensive evaluation of your teeth, existing bone levels, and medical history. Once the treatment plan has been determined and agreed upon, your implant(s) will be placed. We'll use anesthesia and relaxation techniques to help eliminate any anxiety  you may have. Typically, the implants need a few months to become securely anchored into the jawbone, during which a 'temporary' tooth replacement may be placed.

The final step is the placement of the custom-crafted permanent ceramic crown (cap) on the implant. With your new dental implant(s), you can regain the capabilities you once had with your natural teeth, giving you a second chance at eating, laughing, and simply enjoying life with confidence!
